Genetic cancer testing prices

Private cover

If you are privately medically insured and have been diagnosed with cancer almost all healthcare insurance companies will pay for genetic testing if you are considered to have a 10% or greater risk of inherited cancer and it will change your treatment.

Individuals who meet one of the following criteria should be eligible for insurance covered genetic testing:

  • Breast cancer and Jewish ancestry
  • Breast cancer diagnosed <age 45
  • Bilateral breast cancer <age 60
  • Triple negative breast cancer
  • Epithelial ovarian cancer
  • Male breast cancer
  • Breast cancer and parent/child or sibling meeting above criteria

Individuals not meeting the above criteria may still be covered if they have a significant family history.

Unfortunately, insurance companies are extremely unlikely to cover the cost of genetic testing for healthy individuals. For this reason genetic counselling and testing will have to be paid for privately.

If the pre-authorisation number is provided at a later date GeneHealth UK will reimburse the client.

In the event that an insurance company does not reimburse GeneHealth UK for services provided, after being presented with the correctly completed invoice, GeneHealth UK reserves the right to charge the client for the services delivered.
